CAF World Giving Index Ranks Indonesia As Most Generous Country, Australia Increases to 8th

The CAF World Giving Index asks people three questions: have they helped a stranger, given money or volunteered for a good cause over the past month. The generosity of people the world over is evident in this year’s Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) World Giving Index. Surveying over 145,000 people across over 140 countries last year, the fourteenth edition of the World Giving Index demonstrates how people have not only maintained the time they spend volunteering, but also that increasing numbers are donating money and providing help to strangers. The global index score is at its joint-highest level, only previously matched during the pandemic. Indonesia once more tops our World Giving Index  rankings, alongside a top 10 drawn from nations throughout Africa, Oceania, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America – with 73% of the world’s population giving time, money, or helping a stranger last year. The survey asked three questions about what people had done in the past month:

  • Have you donated money to charity?
  • Have you volunteered your time to an organisation?
  • Have you helped a stranger or someone you didn’t know who
    needed help?
Australia has increased it's ranking to 8th in the world (up from 14th in the last report), with:
  • 69% asked had helped a stranger
  • 59% asked had donated money
  • 34% asked had volunteered.
